It was a brand new day. The sun was shining brightly.
With not a cloud in the sky, Shara was making her way to the Pokemon lab of the Haven Area, humming light-heartedly as she went. Why wouldn't she be enjoying herself? After all, today was the day. The day. Today, she would receive her starter Pokemon and officially begin her journey. Watch me Mom, I'll make you proud. A small mixed smile formed on her face, one of determination, joy, and saddness. She missed her mother dearly, and she knew it would be a difficult task to put the past behind her. But Shara also knew that she would have to try. Leaving behind her mother's Pokemon had also been a difficult feat to say the least, they were her last connection to Logan. Her mother had those Pokemon longer than she had her own daughter! But it had to be done. If Shara ever had any hopes of finding peace with her mother's passing, true peace, while also enjoying her Pokemon journey, she needed to start with a clean slate.
And with the lab in sight, that goal grew even closer.
Putting thoughts of her mother behind her, Shara couldn't restrain a giggle before she quickened her pace to a happy jog. Forcing her mind to pace the beat of her feet. She didn't want to look disheveled and bedraggled for the Professor, nor her new partner. She had studied the different starter Pokemon the lab was said to offer, feeling both thrilled and torn. Her mother had started with an Eevee she hatched herself from an egg, and Shara was delighted to learn the lab here offered Eevee's as starters. Maybe not from eggs, but hey: beggars can't be choosers right? Of course, Shara also found the Chikorita, Bulbasaur, and Pichu that were offered to be quite alluring.... But as Shara drew closer and closer, she could feel her resolve growing stronger and stronger. More and more unshakeable. It wasn't long, at the pace she was going, for her to reach the lab doors. Taking a moment to catch her breath, Shara smoothed down her hair and clothes. She took a deep breath before adding some hairclips to her hair to help keep it under control. Heart pounding, Shara knocked on the door to the Professor's lab....

The Professor heard Shara knocking on the door and made her way hastily to answer, swinging the door open within a minute of her girl knocking. She liked giving out starter Pokémon to new trainers, glad that she had offered to do this when the other scientists of the region considered new trainers to be annoying and disruptive to their research. She was always willing to take breaks to help others in whatever way she could, and somehow this paid off as others would do the same for her, plus she worked in a happier, more welcoming environment, all factors combined to help her become one of Airore's top scientific minds.
"Hello, and welcome to Apple Blossom Labs. I'm Professor Apple Blossom. Please, do come in." the ginger, frizzy haired professor greeted Shara warmly and waved her inside to a large, comfortable room. It wasn't filled with a lot of intimidating scientific equipment since this was the entrance room and the room in which new trainers met their starter Pokémon for the first time. Professor AB seemed friendly and open minded, not judging Shara at all. The only time she ever did that was to prevent a trainer who would obviously treat the Pokémon badly from recieving a Pokémon. "I'm guessing you're here for a starter Pokémon," she recognised the look of a new trainer-to-be, "So do you have anything in mind? I can show you a few Pokémon at a time for you to chose from, if you'd like."

"Hello, and welcome to Apple Blossom Labs. I'm Professor Apple Blossom. Please, do come in."
Friendly. Fast.
Professor Apple Blossom answered the door immediately after she knocked. It took Shara off guard for a moment, but a smile came fast to her face. She gladly accepted the invitation, walking into the lab and following the Professor into a cozy room. It was stunning to Shara, to not find lab equipment and paperwork splayed out everywhere on the other side of the door. But instead, it was a very homey and comfortable room. The equipment must be tucked away somewhere else, in a back room or something. Shara figured, which showed good taste on the Professor's part. Who, in Shara's opinion, seemed very zany and friendly.
"I'm guessing you're here for a starter Pokémon," she recognized the look of a new trainer-to-be, "So do you have anything in mind? I can show you a few Pokémon at a time for you to chose from, if you'd like."
Shara turned to Professor Apple Blossom with a friendly and somewhat embarrassed smile. She nodded excitedly though, not bothering in trying to contain herself too much. "I am! Um, I would be any trouble to see a few of the starters? I'm having a little trouble deciding for certain...." She said, feeling embarrassed and stupid for asking something that had been so clearly stated to be okay. So, in an attempt to redeem herself and try to relax, she continued before the Professor could laugh at her too much. "I was debating between Eevee, Chikorita, and Bulbasaur. Would it be possible to see those three?" Shara made no mention of Pichu because, as far as she knew, they could be found easily in the wild. The other starters tended to be a little on the rarer side, so she would make an attempt to catch a Pichu later on in her journey.

Birdy;; ♫ so come on, get it on, i don't know what you're waiting for, your time is coming don't be late, hey hey ♫ "Of course, I'll fetch them right away," Professor AB agreed, hurrying off into a room joining onto the one they were in to access the unlocked filing cabinet there in which she stored the starter's Pokéballs. It wasn't that she didn't trust the new trainers and felt the need to keep the starters separate; it was that every now and then a visitor, new trainer or not, dropped by who could not be trusted not to steal anything. She kept the drawers unlocked in case of emergancy.
When she returned shortly afterwards, the Professor released three Pokémon from their Pokéballs. The first was the requested Eevee. This one was female, with a smug expression as she trotted about the room, brown coat shining healthily. She was bright and cheerful, full of energy and was not at all worried by the presence of a human, but she did seem quite arrogant and full of herself as much sought-after Pokémon like Eevees tended to become when seeing trainers want one of their species so desperately all the time. Professor AB smiled at Shara, deciding to give a little explanation about each Pokémon to make the decision easier and wiser. "Eevees might be rare, but they are bred and in such high demand that they're not actually as rare as they seem. They are very popular and while effectionate, friendly and cute do not have such a good move pool and are a little overconfident." she spoke of pros and cons.
Next, the Chikorita, a second female, emerged to look about the room. She seemed more shy, and walked as though she was constantly wary of someone about to pounce and attack her. "Chikoritas are cheerful and can make very good battlers, but are quite slow-moving and this one seems a little shy, but of course with the right treatment can easily be befriended."
The Bulbasaur was different in colouring to a normal Bulbasaur; he was a shiny. Unlike the other two Pokémon, he was male, and seemed eager to leave the lab and fight. He made no attempt to show off, instead looking at Shara briefly then bounding over to go and look at something else, easily distracted. "This Bulbasaur's a shiny, but please don't let that sway your opinions on them. Choose a Pokémon you feel suits you. Bulbasaurs are much like Chikoritas battewise; strong but slow. This one seemed eager enough, but perhaps a little easily distracted and with a tendancy to daydream." she said, waiting patiently for Shara to interact with the three Pokémon to see which she preferred and ready to accept whichever Shara felt was the best Pokémon for her.

"Of course, I'll fetch them right away,"
Professor Apple Blossom's energy never ceased to amaze Shara. If she wasn't about to go on the longest physical journey of her life, they might have been fast friends. Shara smiled as the Professor left, her eyes flitting around the room she stood in while she waited anxiously for the Professor's return. Which wasn't long at all. The Professor's energy seemed boundless to Shara, which made her smile. She was so excited just to see Professor Apple Blossom's return, that she could hardly contain herself. It took every ounce of self-control Shara possessed not to bounce up-and-down with excitement, but she didn't even bother attempting to hold back her wide and ecstatic smile. With the Professor, were the Pokeballs containing Shara's starter. First up, was the Eevee Shara had first mentioned.
"Eevees might be rare, but they are bred and in such high demand that they're not actually as rare as they seem. They are very popular and while affectionate, friendly and cute do not have such a good move pool and are a little overconfident."
Shara looked at the Professor as she spoke of the ups and downs she would face as a trainer with the Eevee. As Shara watched the Eevee, it was easy to see its overconfidence and arrogance. She didn't know how well she would be able to work with that, her mother's Pokemon had been humble and friendly creatures, something Shara guessed came from living a humble life-style. Still, the Eevee was a marvel in her own way. She seemed cheerful too, which was a good quality. She seemed to know just how desired of a Pokemon she was, and was perfectly comfortable around people. Shara couldn't help but be amused at the Eevee's behavior, but she also wondered how much of a match they would be. Shara had no experience with a personality like that.... But then again, that was what a fresh start was for. But Shara would wait to make her decision after seeing the other Pokemon the Professor had with her, the next of which was Chikorita.
"Chikoritas are cheerful and can make very good battlers, but are quite slow-moving and this one seems a little shy, but of course with the right treatment can easily be befriended."
As Shara looked from the Professor to the Chikorita, she realized that the Professor hit the nail on the head. This Chikorita wasn't only shy, she seemed paranoid as well. Shara tried a friendly smile to see if that calmed the Pokemon, at least a little bit. She had originally planed to wait for the Balbasaur before knelling down on the floor, but she couldn't help it now. Shara sat down on her knees on the floor, coaxing the Eevee and Chikorita to her, giving them equal attention just as she would when the Balbasaur was released. She had come so certain, knowing exactly what she wanted. When she got there, she was beginning to get confused; but now, she found herself even more unsure about the whole thing. Shara returned her attention to the Professor as she spoke next about the Balbasaur.
"This Bulbasaur's a shiny, but please don't let that sway your opinions on them. Choose a Pokémon you feel suits you. Bulbasaurs are much like Chikoritas battewise; strong but slow. This one seemed eager enough, but perhaps a little easily distracted and with a tendency to daydream."
Shara nodded at the Professor's words and turned to watch the Balbasaur, and she had to admit that its shiny state took her off guard at first. She couldn't help but giggle at the Balbasaur's short attention span, and made and attempt to coax him to her like the others. Who by now, if they came to her, she would be petting. Shara felt her heart pounding and thumping loud and hard in her chest now. This was it, the big moment. She could feel the excitement and nervousness pulsing through her veins. Who to choose? The overconfident but friendly and cheerful Eevee? The shy but adorable Chikorita? Or the battle-ready but distracted Balbasaur? Each was so unique and different, Shara was stumped. She'd love to train them all, but she knew she couldn't. Shara continued to pet and stroke each Pokemon that came to her in turn, too nervous and excited for words. This decision would change the coarse of her life...and she had an idea who she wanted to start that adventure off with.
But it was difficult.
Shara couldn't restrain a somewhat sad smile at the Eevee, she reminded Shara so much of her mother. That was probably what made it so difficult. With one last look at each Pokemon in turn, one last pat and warm smile, Shara rose to her feet and turned to Professor Apple Blossom with a confident expression, her racing heart beginning to slow. "I've made my decision, Professor." She declared, though she felt bad for the other two. "I choose Chikorita as my starter." She said, smiling down at the grass type Pokemon. Sure she was shy and somewhat paranoid, but Shara was confident it would work out. She bent down and gave Eevee and Bulbasaur a quick stroke on their heads. "Don't worry, I'm sure someone will pick you two in no time." She said with a smile. Shara then rose to her feet again, and smiled at Chikorita before looking back at the Professor. She thought she would be calmer after choosing, but in reality now she was even more excited. Her heart was no longer racing, but she couldn't help her rising sense of adventure and excitement now.

Birdy;; ♫ so come on, get it on, i don't know what you're waiting for, your time is coming don't be late, hey hey ♫ Eevee bounded over to Shara without a second thought, rubbing her face against Shara's hand affectionately. ~Vee...~
she purred happily, glad at all the attention. The starter Pokémon were allowed outside of their Pokéballs at least once a day, and on days the Professor wasn't expecting any new trainers, they would be allowed to play with the children of the town to teach them about Pokémon. Eevee loved all the attention she could earn by looking at a human with her big brown eyes, wagging her fluffy tail and giving them an adorable smile. Chikorita was more cautious and wary, something which could be a good thing as she wasn't likely to go running into danger, but in the Grass type's case seemed a little extreme. She moved towards Shara hesitantly, only reaching her by the time Bulbasaur had already bounded over, given the trainer's hand a friendly lick, lost interest and started batting Eevee's tail playfully. She looked slightly fearfully into the girl's face, then sniffed her hand very timidly. Apparently deciding Shara was not an enemy, Chikorita relaxed a little and extended a vine from around her neck - the sort that were used during Vine Whip - and wrapped it around Shara's hand. This was her way of holding hands, and she seemed to find a lot of comfort and reasurrance in doing this. It was a simple knowledge that Shara might protect her and not harm her, a first layer of trust. Bulbasaur had almost as much energy as Professor AB and he began to play with Eevee, who grumbled in annoyance as she wanted to be pampered by the new trainer-to-be. The dinosaur shrugged this off, sitting next to Shara and examining her closely. It was not a judging look, more one full of curiousity and interest. As Shara spoke that she wished Chikorita to be her starter, Eevee did not seem too bothered, Bulbasaur barely seemed to notice, and Chikorita gave a noticable intake of breath in shock of actually being wanted. She then beamed at Shara, clearly taking a liking to the girl. A thin layer of trust was beginning to form at this point, which could be built on throughout their journey. Bulbasaur and Eevee both gave Chikorita some words of encouragement before returning to their Pokéballs to be placed back in the filing cabinet so some other trainer might take them in the future. "Chikorita it is! I think you two have gotten off to a good start there, actually. I can really see you doing well; a close bond between trainer and Pokémon really does help both the human and Pokémon learn and be happy in their journey. Righto then, take her Pokéball and these items, and you're all set to go!" Professor AB grinned, handing over the usual starter pack along with Shara's new Pokémon's Pokéball. The Professor genuinely thought that Shara was a nice person and felt she deserved to do well with that kind of attitude towards Pokémon and life in general. The girl was now ready to step out onto te first route, at any rate - Shara's journey had officially begun. #152- Chikorita, Female, Lvl 5 Moves: Tackle, Growl Pokeball x10 Potion x5 Antidote x3 Burn Heal x3 Ice Heal x3 Awakening x3 Parlyz Heal x3 Revive x2[/blockquote] #152- Chikorita, Female, Lvl 5 Moves: Tackle, Growl

Righto then, take her Pokéball and these items, and you're all set to go!"
Exciting. Heart-pounding.
This experience was better than any thriller film. Shara was relieved neither Eevee nor Bulbasaur seemed too bothered with her ultimate decision, and upon hearing the Professor's words she couldn't help but smile down at her new partner. Shara recognized how quickly they bonded, and accepted Chikorita's gesture that seemed to represent holding hands. She was glad to see that Chikorita seemed pleased with the arrangement, and gave the vine in her hand an encouraging and gentle squeeze.
When she looked back up at the Professor, Shara's eyes were shining with determination and excitement. She was determined to make her mother proud of her, but also so very excited to finally be setting out on her own journey. She accepted the items from the Professor, and fitting them in as organized a manner she could manage into her bag. "Thank you so much, Professor Apple Blossom!" Shara said, bowing briefly to show her gratitude. She then turned to her Chikorita, her new partner, and smiled. "Ready?" She asked, waiting for confirmation before holding her hand out to Chikorita, offering it to the vine she hoped Chikorita would grant her. As Shara was not yet ready to return her new friend to her Pokeball. After biding farewell to the Professor, and making sure Chikorita was ready, Shara was off.
Now, were the first true steps to her new life.
